
Policy for Workers with Ergonomic Concerns
Purpose:
To assure minimal risk of Columbia University Employees developing ergonomic related medical conditions
Scope:
Workers at Computer Stations as well as workers that perform tasks that are of ergonomic concern such as frequent lifting pushing or pulling
Procedure:
The following procedures should be followed by employees with ergonomic concerns:
The employee should log on to the EH&S Website and go to the ergonomic link.
A self assessment tool is available for the employee to determine the proper action to take. The employee should determine what action is needed based on the category of mild, moderate or severe symptoms.
If indicated the employee should also seek medical attention.
Responsibility:
Employee - Notify the supervisor of any ergonomic concerns. Follow procedures on
website. Fill out Incident form if indicated.
Supervisor - Sign incident form Adhere
to any medical limitations recommended by the medical provider.
EH&S – When indicated provide onsite ergonomic
assessment and advice.
OHS - When indicated evaluate employee and recommend any limitations
of duty.
