Environmental Health & Safety is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeffrey Leavey as Radiation Safety Officer for Research Programs.  Jeff is a Certified Health Physicist (CHP) with bachelors and masters degrees in Nuclear Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a masters degree in Business Administration from Marist College. 
Jeff has been active in health physics and radiation safety for more than 30 years and has been a CHP for over 25 years.  His recent appointments include Principal Radiological Health Engineer at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory and as the ionizing and non-ionizing Radiation Safety Officer at Cornell University. 
Jeff brings a wealth of experience in managing radiation safety programs for academic, research and development, and industrial environments. His background include experience with radioactive materials, accelerators and x-ray equipment, lasers, magnetic fields, and radiofrequency safey.

We are also happy to announce that Yuseph Sleem begins his career as an Industrial Hygienist on September 4, 2012 and will be based out of Morningside, but supporting EH&S across the institution.  Yuseph comes to us from NYCDEP, where for the past 4.5 years he has served as an emergency responder and Community-Right-to-Know inspector.  With proven skills in emergency response, respiratory protection (including heading up his unit’s scba program), IH equipment selection and use, Yuseph is a welcome addition to the EH&S team.  His field experience is complemented by a dual BS in Chemistry and Physical Science and an MBA from St. John’s, where he was also a member of their NCAA swim team.
