Biological Safety Program Overview Brochure

Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan The University is required to provide an Exposure Control Plan describing how personnel working with human blood or other materials capable of transmitting HIV, HBV, and HCV and other 'bloodborne' diseases will be protected. This plan is designed for research laboratories on the Health Sciences Campuses; it must be customized for each laboratoy's particular needs and exposure situation.

Decontamination and Disinfection Decontamination and disinfection procedures for infectious materials.

Hazardous Materials Appendices
The use of recombinant DNA, infectious materials, pathogenic microorganisms, lasers (Class IIIB and IV), and particularly hazardous chemicals requires completion of the appropriate appendix and submittal to EH&S.

Laboratory Security Laboratories and personnel using or storing any of approximately three dozen high-risk microorganisms or toxins must first obtain approval from the FBI and either the CDC or USDA.  EH&S manages this process which includes the development of safety and security procedures, background checks and finger printing.
